::: artists process, desiree b. :::

In my on-going photography project focused on Southern California artists, craftsmen & creatives, I was happy to meet and capture Desiree B. out of Huntington Beach, CA.
Desiree is first an artist, pen & paper is where she begins all of her creations; her final products vary from clever greeting cards to stuffed creatures made from recycled materials. When we met up she was in mass creation, preparing to fill her space for the launch of Crafted in San Pedro.
Desiree sketches a character then makes a pattern, meanwhile she collects material from spent clothing at swap meets, thrift stores and garage sales, she reworks them and shapes them into furry travel buddies, adorable penguins or woodland creatures like owls, bears and rabbits, etc. Hers is an eco-friendly process of up-cycling, mainly using used textiles to create something new and unique.
It was fun observing her process of pairing the perfect button eyes on each design, dipping into her seemingly endless supply of buttons. As a well rounded Crafter, she sews, cuts, draws and stitches (and all the sewing began only a few years back when she moved to California!)
Desiree B. has a great sense of humor and style that comes thru in all her creations. Just take a look at her greeting cards with "Birdy Harry" and "the statue of lil' birdy" and see if you can't enjoy yourself. To see her work in person visit Crafted in San Pedro or check out her blog imustdraw.blogspot.com
