Community is the focus of this feature, specifically a Ukelele Group which gather Thursday evenings and Friday mornings in a brightly lit and tropical music store in Huntington Beach, CA. Shirley Orlando is the owner of Island Bazaar and has been in this space for 15 years and teaching music for 25 years! Shirley facilitates the Ukelele Lessons and Club gatherings in her space twice per week and has several other music groups (gospel, folk, rock, etc.) who gather and use the space for practicing together and maintaining a community. I visited a recent Ukelele gathering with nearly 40 participants and found the people very inviting, playful, fun and inspiring. They have a playlist of songs prepared in advance, there's an opportunity for anyone to perform a solo or lead the group and they break to socialize then get back into the light & lovely music.
